The Washington State Cougars couldn’t stop Auburn Tigers running back Kenny Irons. They had trouble stopping much of anything in yesterday’s 40-14 romp by Auburn. The Cougars scored a TD in the 1st and 3rd quarters, but that was all she wrote for the offense. Meanwhile, Auburn put up 494 yards of total offense.

When the Marshall Thundering Herd loaded up to visit the West Virginia Mountaineers they forgot to pack the thunder. This game was another one in a string of “soft” games for ranked teams. #5 West Virginia had little trouble putting the game out of reach quickly. They scored 28 points in the first half to take a 28-7 lead, and the game was over. In the second half, Marshall could only muster 3 points. West Virginia kept adding scores and ran right over them 42-10.

After the first quarter the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss like where they stood. The score was tied 7-7, which isn’t bad considering they were playing the #7 team in the country in Florida. However, the game ended for USM at this point. They would not score another point despite putting up almost 300 yards in total offense. Florida was too tough and the Golden Eagles to error prone. Florida beat Southern Miss 34-7.

When ULL took the field against #8 LSU they knew their chances of winning were slim to none. However, they probably expected to do a little scoring while they were in town. Unfortunately for them, LSU had other ideas. ULL was held to a lone field goal, which occurred in the 2nd quarter. Meanwhile, LSU was scoring at will—14 in the 1st, 14 in the 2nd, 7 in the 3rd, and 10 in the 4th. The LSU Tigers dominated the ULL Ragin’ Cajuns 45-3.

It was bound to happen. #23 was at home hosting #9 California. Many college football analysts have been talking about the Volunteers being back. Last season they finished 5-6 and were lucky to pull off that many wins. Quick the prove that 2005 was a fluke of a year, the Volunteers wasted no time by dispatching the Golden Bears 35-18 on Saturday.

Well, this game certainly shouldn’t have been this close considering Oklahoma is supposed to be the number 10 team in the country and the UAB Blazers are, well, they are the UAB Blazers. This game was tied 7-7 at the half and the Blazers were feeling great. Why shouldn’t they? UAB was tied at the half with the #10 team in the country in Oklahoma. The 3rd quarter was filled with fireworks as both teams put up multiple scores. Going into the 4th, it was a close game—21-17 Oklahoma. However, UAB sputtered in the fourth and failed to score. The Sooners added an insurance field goal and won the game 24-17.

#14 Michigan rolled right along in their game against Vanderbilt. Each quarter Michigan added a score and Vanderbilt was unable to keep up. The game was in13-7 in Michigan’s favor at the half. It was still an open contest. However, in the 3rd, Michigan distanced themselves from the Commodores by posting another TD and shutting down the Vanderbilt offense. It was 20-7 going into the fourth and the Commodores were finished. The Wolverines added a TD for good measure and won the game 27-7.

The Georgia Bulldogs–#14 in the preseason polls—wasted no time getting Western Kentucky out of the way. This game was over in the first quarter. Georgia put two TDs and a field goal on the board to take a commanding 17-0 lead after one quarter of play. In the second quarter it was more of the same. Georgia added two more TDs. Western Kentucky managed to get into the end zone as well. Georgia never stopped playing despite their lead. In the end, Georgia won 48-12.
