The first score proved to be the game winner in this contest. The Auburn Tigers defense came to play. They didn’t allow a single score and held the Mississippi State offense to just 161 total yards. Meanwhile the Auburn Tigers offense put up scores in each of the four quarters. They were held to just a field goal in the 4th, but they put up 34 total points and beat the Bulldogs 34-0.

The Ohio State Buckeyes solidified their claim to the number one spot by going down to Texas and beating up the Longhorns. Despite the halftime score of 14-7, Texas was never really in this one. The best thing announcers could say about Texas was that Colt McCoy was a “great name for a Texas quarterback.” I’m sure Texas would rather have showed up than have a great named QB.

The new AP Top 25 is out and I’m not too surprised by the results. I have a couple bones to pick, but that’s normal. Ohio State stayed number one by crushing Texas—and perhaps exposing them as overrated. I was kind of surprised to see Penn State make the cut at 25 while Georgia Tech missed the 25th spot by some 60 votes. The common link between these two teams is Notre Dame—now back at the number 2 spot. Notre Dame embarrassed Penn State, while Georgia Tech almost pulled off an upset.
