AP Top 25 Week Three

The new AP Top 25 is out and I’m not too surprised by the results. I have a couple bones to pick, but that’s normal. Ohio State stayed number one by crushing Texas—and perhaps exposing them as overrated. I was kind of surprised to see Penn State make the cut at 25 while Georgia Tech missed the 25th spot by some 60 votes. The common link between these two teams is Notre Dame—now back at the number 2 spot. Notre Dame embarrassed Penn State, while Georgia Tech almost pulled off an upset.

Auburn rose one spot to number 3 this week and they are playing in a big time game against now #6 LSU. USC missed the #3 spot by a single vote, but that’s the price for the bye week. They are playing Nebraska this week and a convincing win could vault them all the way to #2. Georgia cracked the top 10 after their impressive 18-0 win at South Carolina. They lost their starting QB for a few weeks, but their backup was one of the top high school QBs in the nation.

Let me just go on record right now and say that Florida State is not a top 10 school. They remained at #9 this week despite struggling against Troy of all schools in Florida. I don’t think they could beat lower ranked schools like #24 Texas Tech or #23 Boston College. It’s a popularity thing though. They have a bigger challenge this week as they play Clemson—who just missed the top 25 by 3 votes. The game is in Florida, so that should help the Seminoles.

Here’s the entire AP Top 25 for this week.
