Arizona State senior quarterback, Sam Keller, is going to be leaving for greener pastures. Evidentially the recent events have angered him. Last week, on Friday, he was named the starter for the 2006 season. 48 hours later ASU made a reversal decision and demoted Keller to the backup role. Keller has options. If he goes to another I-A college, he will need to sit out this year, but he has one year of eligibility left.
Keller could also go to a I-AA or lower school and play right away. Keller will be the second ASU quarterback to jump ship. Sophomore quarterback, Harrison Beck, recently left for North Carolina State. As it stands, Arizona State will be starting senior quarterback Zac Taylor. There are three schools that have shown interest in Sam Keller—Nebraska, Colorado and Oklahoma.
Sam Keller is a well-liked player on the team. Many of his teammates have shown support for his decision and are sad to see him go. Wherever he ends up, he’s not expected to rock the boat much since he has just one season of eligibility left. With the whirlwind that was the decision and reversal by ASU, you can’t blame him for feeling slighted.
