The Portland State Vikings thought things were going to go their way as they connected on a 24 yard field goal five minutes into the game to go up 3-0. However, their hopes for quickly dashed as the Golden Bears together a 55 Yard Drive on their next possession. That drive ended with a 3 yard TD pass to Cameron Morrah from Nathan Longshore. The Golden Bears now had a 7-3 lead and they were just getting started.

Five minutes later the Golden Bears put together another drive. This time it was a 65 Yard Drive that ended in a one-yard TD run by Justin Forsett. California was now up to 14-3 and there’s more to come. Less than a minute later Daymeion Hughes picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards to the big house. The Golden Bears now had a commanding lead of 21-3.
The second quarter was more the same for the Golden Bears. They scored three more touchdowns and looked to be on pace to score an enormous amount of points. Portland State Vikings weren’t about to give up and they did score 13 points in the second quarter. However, it proved to be too little too late. For Golden State Bears fans the second half is cause for concern. While the defense stopped the Portland State Vikings from scoring, the Golden Bears offense was nonexistent.
There were no scores in the second half in the final was 42-16 in favor of the Golden Bears. California now runs their record to 2-1. The Portland State Vikings suffered their first loss of the season and are now 2-1. The California Golden Bears had 502 yards of total offense. 309 yards were via the aerial attack in 193 yards came on the ground. Their defense held the Vikings offense to 273 yards. While the Vikings were able to move the ball, they were not able to capitalize. It really didn’t matter since their defense was unable to stop the Golden Bears.
The California Golden Bears are ranked 22nd in this week’s AP poll. They have a tougher assignment next week as they will face Arizona State who is ranked 20th in this week’s AP top 25 poll. The loser of that game will most likely be bumped out of the top 25.
