Yesterday we talked about some of the top quarterbacks in college football. It’s never too early to start looking at these guys as potential 2007 NFL draft material. One thing is for sure, a great running back can sure help a program fly. Teams that feature a great quarterback and great running back usually flourish, because defenses have to play the run and pass honestly. Today, we are going to take a look at a handful of running backs that you should keep an eye on.
1. Adrian Peterson – Oklahoma
2. Marshawn Lynch – California
3. Steve Slaton – West Virginia
4. Darius Walker – Notre Dame
5. Thomas Brown – Georgia
6. Antonio Pittman – Ohio State
7. Brian Leonard – Rutgers
8. Michael Hart – Michigan
9. Albert Young – Iowa
10. Kenny Irons – Auburn
There is on sophomore on this list, Steve Slaton of West Virginia. He is probably going to have a great year and he has time to get even better. Adrian Peterson, a Junior from Oklahoma, is the top name on everyone’s lips. He became the first running back at Oklahoma—a school with a big time history—to rush for 3,000 yards in the first two years. However, I am a bit concerned. In 2005, he dropped of by some 800 yards and only rushed for 1,108 yards. That’s a big drop. He has also had injury problems. Still, he’s a good running back. Come September, we will start to see just who is possible NFL material and who will be fading from the battlefield.
