Penn State Gets Back on Track with Win Over Penguins



The Penn State Nittany Lions got back on track by beating up on the Youngstown State Penguins. Penn State didn’t get out of the gate too well. After the first quarter the score was tied at 0-0. It looked like Penn State was going to struggle with the Penguins when after almost 6 minutes into the second quarter the score was only 3-0. The big break came nine minutes into the second quarter when A.J. Wallace broke a run for 76 yards, which resulted in a TD.

Five minutes later the Nittany Lions scored again on a Tony Hunt 11 yard TD run. To cap it off the Nittany Lions kicked a 28 yard field goal as time expired in the half. Penn State was now in control 20-0 going into the second half. Six minutes into the third quarter the Penguins got a 33 yard field goal off the foot of Brian Palmer. It was their only score of the game.

The Nittany Lions scored 17 more points in the second half to beat the Penguins 37-3 and go 2-1 on the season. The Youngstown State Penguins are also 2-1. The Nittany Lions defense held the Penguins offense to just 184 yards in total offense. The Penguins only had 47 yards on the ground. Youngstown State also had three critical turnovers—two interceptions and one fumble lost.

Nittany Lions quarterback Anthony Morelli was 11 of 27 for 154 yards. He didn’t have a TD or interception. The main damage done by Penn State was on the ground. They had 389 rushing yards. Tony Hunt accounted for 143 rushing yards over 18 carries. He also had a score and his longest run was 24 yards. Rodney Kinlaw had 86 yards over six periods. AJ Wallace had one monster run of 76 yards, which was a TD run. Derek Williams rushed for 56 yards over nine carries and a touchdown. Darryl Clark had to rushes for 26 yards and a TD.

For the Penguins, their best rusher was Justin Reams. He had 28 yards over eight carries. However, 13 of those 28 yards came on one rush. There were 104,954 people in attendance. Next week the Penn State Nittany Lions travel into the unfriendly confines of the horseshoe to face Ohio State. The Ohio State buckeyes are currently the number one team in the country.
