Well, this game certainly shouldn’t have been this close considering Oklahoma is supposed to be the number 10 team in the country and the UAB Blazers are, well, they are the UAB Blazers. This game was tied 7-7 at the half and the Blazers were feeling great. Why shouldn’t they? UAB was tied at the half with the #10 team in the country in Oklahoma. The 3rd quarter was filled with fireworks as both teams put up multiple scores. Going into the 4th, it was a close game—21-17 Oklahoma. However, UAB sputtered in the fourth and failed to score. The Sooners added an insurance field goal and won the game 24-17.
Sooners QB Paul Thompson was 14 of 24 for 227 yards and 2 TDs. However, he also threw two picks. This was really a sloppy game for the Sooners. They also lost two fumbles. Blazers QB Sam Hunt put up 149 yards after going 9 of 15. Hunt threw a TD to Corey White (24 yards) in the 2nd quarter.
The Blazers leading rusher was their quarterback. Sam Hunt had 65 yards over 15 carries. His longest was 12 yards. Sooners Adrian Peterson chalked up 139 yards and 1 TD over 24 yards. His longest run was for 37 yards. He also was the recipient of a Paul Thompson TD pass for 69 yards. Corey White had 4 catches for 53 yards and a TD for the Blazers.
The Sooners sputtered in this game. If there’s any bright spot, it’s the play of my player of the game Adrian Peterson. He was money. Peterson is healthy and he’s going to make a run for the Heisman Trophy this season. Next week the Sooners will play Washington.
