Scout.com has released their listing of the top 100 college recruits around the country. It’s likely that some of these guys could be appearing in the NFL draft in a few years. Looking over the top 10, only two have committed to schools. Here’s a quick look at the top 10 college recruits for 2007.
1. Marvin Austin – He’s a DT from Coolidge HS in Washington, DC. He has not committed yet, but Maryland, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, USC and Virginia remain possibilities.
2. Noel Devine – He’s a RB from North Fort Myers HS in Florida. Possible colleges are Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (FL), Texas and USC.
3. Jimmy Clausen – Quarterback from Oaks Christian HS in California. He has committed to Notre Dame.
4. Anthony Davis – He’s an OL from Piscataway Township HS in New Jersey. Options are: Miami (FL), USC, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Rutgers.
5. Arrelious Benn – WR from Dunbar HS in Washington, DC. Options are: Florida State, Illinois, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, USC, LSU, and South Carolina.
6. Marc Tyler – Another player from Oaks Christian HS in California. He’s a RB. Options include: USC, Auburn, Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Oregon and South Carolina. His HS teammate went to Notre Dame.
7. Everson Griffen – A DE from Agua Fria Union HS in Arizona. Options are: UCLA, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan, Oklahoma and Oregon.
8. Torrey Davis – DT from Armwood HS in Florida. His options are: Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and West Virginia.
9. Tray Allen – OL from So Grand Prairie HS in Texas. He has committed to Texas.
10. Calab King – RB from Parkview HS in Georgia. His options are: Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami (FL) and USC.
Looking over the list, it’s easy to see how valuable getting a school’s program in the limelight is. Most of these kids have Texas and/or USC on their list. The reason is not the school itself, but the fact that they were in the championship game and that reason alone. USC and Texas have a fair number of commitments in the top 100 and tons more possibilities.
