The quarterback play was atrocious and led to many disastrous finishes. Could things get better in Sin City? The quick answer is yes. Mike Sanford is building a better Rebel team and things are beginning to look up for UNLV.

While you won’t see the Rebels running off with the conference, it is possible that they will be a .500 team next year, which would be a huge improvement. One huge improvement is at the quarterback position. UNLV landed USC transfer Rocky Hinds and he figures to challenge Shane Steichen for the starting QB job. I am sure there are more than a few Rebels rooting for Rocky. Another addition was the superstar receiver from JUCO, Aaron Straiten.

The defense is being upgraded as well thanks to transfers Eric Wright from USC, Mil’Von James from UCLA and Tony Cade from Oklahoma. UNLV has hit the transfer lotto. These guys are not transfers from some small college in the burbs; they are transfers from prime-time college football schools. The team is full of energy and talk is starting to buzz around campus. If these pieces come together as expected, the new Shotgun Spread offense could be amazing. Rebel fans have a lot to be hopeful for. Even a .500 team would be a major improvement and help restore at least a small sense of pride to the program. When you have just one winning season in 12 years, being average is a huge step up.
