Thanks in part to a magical ending the 9-7 Kansas City Chiefs and new coach Herm Edwards are in the playoffs as an AFC Wild Card.
Time to celebrate? Nope. Their first game will be a tough challenge as they head into the RCA Dome to face the AFC South Champion Indianapolis Colts, who are probably still thinking about last year’s playoff debacle.
The Chiefs will be up against a good team, in the Colts, with something to prove. All the talk this week has been about Larry Johnson and how the Colts will control him. That’s the one weakness of the Colts and it’s perhaps the only advantage the Chiefs have.
While most expect a very tight game, I’ve got another picture in my head. I don’t think the Chiefs defense can keep up with the Colts receivers in the dome and it’s likely that the Colts fire away. Larry Johnson or not, the Chiefs are bound to have trouble keeping up.
The Colts are a 7-point favorite and I’ll take it. Despite their problems on the road, the Colts were undefeated at home this year for the first time in almost 50 years. The Chiefs aren’t pretty on the road. I think they will be forced to abandon the run game and Larry Johnson at some point and get into a passing war with the Colts.
The result will be the Colts winning this game. And let’s not forget, if it happens to be a close game, the Colts now have the best clutch field goal kick, Adam Vinatieri, in the game.
