At 1 p.m. Sunday the New York Jets are going to battle the AFC East Champion New England Patriots. These teams split the regular season meetings, so this time it’s for keeps.
In week 2 of the NFL season, the Patriots went to New York and beat the Jets 24-17. In week ten, the Jets returned the favor by going into New England and betting the Patriots 17-14.
So, what should we expect out of Sunday’s match up? Probably more of the same. This game could come down to a field goal and the Patriots no longer have their ace Adam Vinatieri.
Patriots fans have some cause for concern. While the Patriots were 12-4, their last 6 wins were against Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Jacksonville and Tennessee. Four of those teams aren’t anywhere near AFC playoff caliber and you could argue that Jacksonville isn’t either.
The Jets aren’t exactly mowing down top teams either. When in doubt, go with the best team. And that’s why I’m picking the Patriots. I do think the Jets have more than a decent shot to pull of the upset.
If the game is close, the Patriots have the clear edge with running backs Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney. Look for those two to ram the ball down the throat of the Jets defense all day long.
Here’s the other factor. The Jets will need to play a near perfect game. An early turnover or two by the Jets and this game could be put away.
