Green Bay Packers Draft Disaster

The Green Bay Packers had a present handed to them in the 1st round of the 2007 NFL draft and they decided to look a gift horse in the mouth. Instead, they took Justin Harrell, DT, from Tennessee.

So, what’s this gift I speak of? Well, if you followed the draft, you knew that Cleveland passed on Brady Quinn with their selection, which was 3rd overall—they took Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin.

After the Miami Dolphins passed on Quinn with their selection—9th overall—the Cleveland Browns hit the phones. They wanted Quinn and they were willing to pay—big time—for him. And that’s where the Packers and their big mistake comes in.

As Quinn slipped down the draft, the Browns got more frantic. They knew Quinn could be had.

Sources say that the Browns offered the Green Bay Packers their 2008 1st round selection and a position swap for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds of this year’s NFL draft. And the Packers said no thanks.

Instead, the Packers took Harrell, who was probably in no danger of being selected anytime soon. And they lost an increase of 13 draft spots for the next three rounds.

Many Packer fans were disgusted with the #16 selection—Harrell—and now they have even more reason to be upset.
