Miami Dolphins Pick Who?

With the 9th overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select . . .

You could hear boos the second the Dolphins’ first pick—number nine overall—was announced. With almost all the college players available, the Dolphins took Ted Ginn Jr., WR, from Ohio State.

Was a player who’s best contribution might be as a return man worth the #9 pick in the 2007 NFL draft, especially for a team with other needs?

And now Ted Ginn Jr. isn’t so sure that he’ll even be ready for camp. In case you forgot, he injured his foot in a foolish end zone celebration in the 2007 BCS Championship game. Remember, the one his team lost 41-14. That “fun” celebration knocked him out of the game.

Dolphins Coach Cam Cameron is trying to quite the boo birds, but he’s yet to say that Ginn Jr. will be a good wide receiver. He’s simply touting his ability to return kickoffs—wow.

As a wide receiver, was Ginn Jr. a better pick than Dwayne Bowe (Louisiana State), Robert Meachem (Tennessee) or Anthony Gonzalez (Ohio State)—all of whom went late in the first round.

I think this is one pick that we’ll be talking about for some time as a first round bust. When compared to other wide receivers the Dolphins could have selected—even with their second pick—this selection looks suspect.

This pick was so bad that I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn’t the Detroit Lions’ pick.
