We’re about to hit summer, the NFL draft is over, and now it’s time to start thinking about how next year will be. Today, I was looking over the futures for the upcoming NFL season and am a little surprise—okay, a lot surprised.
The AFC Championship futures are old hat. The top teams are the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and San Diego Chargers. Anyone surprised? I hope not.
The Oakland Raiders (60-1) and Miami Dolphins (75-1) round out the bottom—as they should.
The NFC Championship futures are a bit surprising. First, there’s the Dallas Cowboys at 2/1. Really? I’d like to bet against this one.
The biggest surprise, 3rd best at 5-1, is the Green Bay Packers. Did Favre comeback and not tell us? Are you serious? I haven’t done a complete season profile yet, but I was thinking the Packers were a potentially 7-9 team.
The Seattle Seahawks look to be getting some respect finally—no more S.A.—they are 6-1 and could do some damage this season. If they get home field, it could be over for opposing teams. Their running game should explode this season.
And once again, the Arizona Cardinals are higher than they should be—10th at 18-1. Every year people keep thinking this team has turned the corner. We’ll see.
The San Francisco 49ers (45-1) and Atlanta Falcons (75-1) round out the bottom of the NFC.
The Super Bowl XLIII futures have the New England Patriots at 5-2 and Dallas Cowboys at 9-2. The Indianapolis Colts at 6-1 are third. The Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons cleanup the list at 150-1 each.
